- Continue to research careers. Sophomore year is an important time to learn about your interests, as well as careers and their occupational outlook. Career exploration now will help you when it is time to select a major and a college. Visit Big Future to search careers and get information on college majors.
- Discuss career options with others, such as professionals, your counselor, teachers, or college representatives.
- Get involved in extracurricular activities In addition to your grades, colleges will want to see what you did with your spare time in high school. Did you hold down a job? Did you take part in a summer program? Did you play a sport? Volunteering and involvement with a club is a great way to show involvement and NOW is the time to start! Look for opportunities to grow, explore your interests, and develop important life skills.

- Keep a log of involvement in and outside of school. Sports, jobs, clubs, volunteering...all these things will become important to include as you apply to colleges and for scholarships.
- Explore college admission criteria. Use a college search tool such as Big Future to help research different schools and what is required to apply.
- Attend a college fair and/or meet with college representatives that are visiting the school. Take a look at our calendar to see when a particular college will be visiting.
- Visit the NCAA Clearinghouse if you are planning on playing collegiate athletics at a Division I or II school. The NCAA requires completion of certain core classes in order to be eligible. Plan to meet with your counselor to ensure that you are taking the correct courses.
